On The Rocks
Tucked away in the heart of Mumbles at the Old Lifeboat House, On The Rocks is one of those hidden gems you almost don’t want to tell anyone about-but it’s just too good to keep secret. Perched along the scenic coast of Swansea, this waterfront restaurant blends upscale casual dining with the kind of relaxed seaside charm that feels effortless yet undeniably special.
From the moment you walk in, you’ll notice the vibe is distinctly coastal-chic-natural light floods the space, the sea breeze drifts through the open windows, and there’s an easy-going hum of conversation. Whether you’re solo and soaking in the view or out for a catch-up with friends, it’s the kind of spot that adapts to your mood. The restaurant also earns points for being wheelchair accessible, making it a welcoming destination for everyone.
Now, let’s talk food-because that’s really where On The Rocks shines. The menu leans into fresh, local ingredients and contemporary takes on classics. If you're starting off, the Salt & Chilli Squid with Citrus Aioli sets a vibrant tone. It’s crisp, tangy, and just spicy enough to wake up your palate. Another must-try starter is the Crispy Cockles-a unique local nod, seasoned to perfection and full of texture.
Seafood lovers are in for a treat. The Scallops are seared beautifully and pair well with a glass from their impressive wine list. The Sea Bass is another standout-tender, flaky, and served with an artistic touch that matches the view outside. Craving something heartier? The Slow Cooked Belly of Pork comes with a soy honey and sweet chilli glaze that hits all the right notes-savory, sweet, and deeply satisfying.
For mains, the Fillet Steak and Sirloin Steak are cooked just right, ideal for anyone after a traditional, well-executed dish. There’s also the Ribeye Ciabatta, which brings a bistro-style twist-juicy meat, fresh bread, and a side of indulgence. Vegetarians aren’t left out either; the Chickpea Salad and Risotto offer flavorful, thoughtful options beyond the usual filler dishes.
Don’t skip dessert. The Homemade Chocolate Brownie with Honeycomb and Vanilla Ice Cream feels both nostalgic and elevated-it’s the kind of sweet ending that sticks with you. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, the Pina Cota is delicate, creamy, and well-balanced. Pair it with an Espresso or their signature Ginger Barti Rum to round off the experience.
Drink-wise, On The Rocks is no slouch. Their cocktail list is both creative and classic, featuring everything from refreshing beachy mixes to deeper, boozy blends perfect for a post-dinner wind-down. If cocktails aren’t your thing, you’ve got a great beer selection and a wine list that reads like a sommelier’s dream-well-curated and far from generic.
While they don’t offer delivery or takeaway, that’s sort of the point here. On The Rocks is meant to be experienced in person, from the ocean views to the warm, attentive service. They even offer free water refills, a small but appreciated touch that reflects the overall thoughtfulness of the team.
What sets On The Rocks apart isn’t just its location or its menu-it’s the way it all comes together without feeling forced. The balance of casual and refined, local and global, makes it more than just another coastal eatery. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or settling in for a long, wine-filled afternoon, there’s a sense that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

This place is amazing. The location is superb with views out over Swansea bay from the table. The atmosphere was great and the staff were excellent. We came to celebrate a big family occasion and it helped make it very special. The food was nothing short of amazing. The rocks on the table is a genius idea and really added to the occasion. I don't know about the prices as I didn't pay but from what I saw briefly on the menus it was very reasonable for the quality of experience. We thoroughly enjoyed as a family and will be returning. Highly recommended!!
Firstly, what a setting! This place is absolutely beautiful, a prime location. We had a lovely dinner with my parents-in-law here, on Sunday. I personally like that there isn't a lot to choose from on the menu, because I'm terrible at making food decisions (want it all). We had a mix of starters: belly pork, goats cheese balls (A MUST) and scallops. Everyone loved their starters, my favourite were the cheese balls! They had a lovely jam on the side. My husband and I went for a steak main, which was really nice and came with a hot stone - but I'd probably see if the chef could cook it next time, just to save my own mess! Other than that it was really good, with beef dripping sauce and garlic butter. The cheesy mash with goats cheese is also a must have. We also had dessert: brownie, cheesecake and banana bread. All delicious! I also had a couple of lemon cocktails, they were stunning. I really love this place, and will definitely come back for more lovely food! Plenty of parking outside and a really beautiful spot. The staff were attentive and made sure we enjoyed.
Absolutely amazing experience! All staff were so friendly and welcoming I think Gracie was our server and she was absolutely outstanding. Thank you eveyone for your hospitality and gorgeous food! I would highly reckon the pork belly to start! And the lavender lemon drop cocktail
Had a gorgeous meal here on the bank holiday weekend. We had a lovely seat next to the windows and the views are spectacular! We had the focaccia to start with which I highly recommend and then for mains we had a steak & the sea bass. The sea bass was cooked perfectly and the sauce was so tasty. I was really impressed with the selection of soft drinks too, I opted for a strawberry and lime drink which they make in house and it was so refreshing. Will definitely be coming back!
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant today. The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful, with stunning views and a warm, welcoming vibe. The service was truly outstanding—every single staff member was incredibly kind and friendly. They kindly let us change our table from outside to inside when it got a bit too chilly, and even charged our phone for us. Everyone had a smile on their face and made us feel genuinely cared for. The food was absolutely delicious, and the wine was just perfect. For dessert, we went with the cheese board, which was of excellent quality and a great way to end the meal. All in all, this place is a real gem, and I’d definitely love to come back sometime.
